The 2019 Autumn Meeting was held in the Canadian city of Toronto, a vibrant metropolitan hub with a fast-growing technology base and numerous startups. We welcomed organisations across the search, classification and publishing technology space to participate in the meeting.

Sunday, 14 October
- Arrival of participants. IPTC Board of Directors meeting in the afternoon.
Monday 15 October, 9:00 to 18:00
- 9am: Welcome and overview – Stuart Myles, Associated Press (Chair, IPTC)
- 9.30 – 10.30am: Photo and Video Metadata update – Michael Steidl, independent. Update on standards and promotion, including discussion of the Google Images embedded IPTC metadata extraction project.
- 10.30 – 11am: coffee break
- 11am – 11.30: NewsML update – Dave Compton, Thomson Reuters (News Architecture Working Group Lead). Change Requests including introducing the experimental NewsML namespace for faster prototyping and development projects.
- 11.30 – 12.30: IPTC/MINDS joint project – Robert Schmidt-Nia and Gerald Innerwinkler. Discussion of a project shared between IPTC and MINDS on adding metadata for audience type and interest levels. Discussion of new work that can help publishers target content to audiences, drive engagement and ultimately increase revenue.
- 12.30 – 2pm: lunch
- 2 – 3pm: SportsML and SportsJS updates – Johan Lindgren, TT (Sports Content Working Group Lead). Updates to SportsML and new JSON rendition of SportsML.
- 3 – 3.30pm: RightsML update – Stuart Myles, Associated Press (chair, Rights Expressions Working Group)
- 3.30 – 4pm: coffee break
- 4 – 5.30pm: Special session on new-generation editorial systems: New developments in the world of CMSs, publishing platforms and content distribution from vendors and IPTC members.
